Calais, France. A northern, industrial city, destroyed then rebuilt, a port city at the end of the Channel tunnel, a transit city for migrants. But there's more to these pictures than meets the eye. Calais and its inhabitants used to periodically match their pace to that of the giants of the Royal de Luxe street theater company. This article aims at showing how street theater performances may impact some city ambiances for long. As a matter of fact, the coming of giants caused shifts in space and time, brought about disruptions in the still continuing day-to-day activities, and left traces in minds and materials.
