L'écriture de la controverse chez Grégoire de Nysse. Polémique littéraire et exégèse dans le Contre Eunome

Abstract : The Contra Eunomium, dated to the years 378-383, is the main theological work written by Gregory (around 335 - after 394), bishop of Nyssa in Cappadocia. Far from being a systematic work, this book, a milestone of Trinitarian theology, is polemical and refutes step by step a lost book of Eunomius. This study offers a detailed analysis of the polemical methods, in particular of heresiologic tools and literary techniques. Critics have indeed often taken at face value attacks from Gregory against Eunomius. Considering that the interpretation of Scripture is one of the major issues in the discussion between the two men and one of the main methods of Gregory's theological thought, a second part is devoted to exegesis in the Contra Eunomium, and to the sources and interlocutors of the bishop of Nyssa in this field. The Contra Eunomium is a major step in the development of theological writing and of Patristic theology in Late Antiquity.
