La qualité comme moyen de repenser le développement durable d'un territoire

Abstract : Quality as a means to rethink the sustainable development of a territory. Quality is all the more difficult to define as its meaning seems obvious. It's worth considering the different senses of the word and trying to explain how quality can, at the same time, be forgotten by sciences, while being so much used in the field of management. Hence, a more precise meaning can be given. This allows explaining why official approaches of sustainability have reached deadlock. In fact, quality appears to be a precious operator, that reveals which characteristics of beings or things are really important for actors. It opens the way for a better communication between actors on complex issues, as shown by the example of the plateau of Saclay. Located in the urban area of Paris, this territory concentrates a great number of aspects, ranging from a huge research potential to a high role in terms of biodiversity. Though numerous surveys and maps were developed for this area, no referential of important qualities about this territory exists. Consequently, actors meet the greatest difficulties in finding a way to deal concretely with the objective of sustainability.
