Une approche territoriale des risques : Un outil pour le chercheur, critique et réflexif

Abstract : Geographical approaches of risk are shaped by political and cultural concerns that frame social science assessments from the 1960s on. Since the 1990s, as it gets globalized, the environmental issue becomes hegemonic and performative. In a context of political and cultural concerns, modernity in tension, and intensifying globalization, territories bring a situated and alternative framework for assessing risks from the understanding of French social geography. The political and cultural idea of territory is an epistemological proposal and a methodological opportunity for assessing risk, considering risk as a social construction of facts and meanings. While the environmental question needs a context, articulation to different scales, and politicization, the definition of territorializing risk, its drivers, its implications for social reality, and the social challenges it arises makes even more relevant the assignment of geography that consists in addressing current socio-environmental issues and human - environment interactions.
