The chapter examines the global and national context of African migration, starting with an historical background concerning migration in sub-Sharan Africa. It describes the different routes to Europe by land and by sea. It then analyses the particularities encountered by the sub-Saharan migrants within the three countries under study _France,Britain and South-Africa.

Ce chapitre analyse le contexte global et national de la migration africaine en commençant par un regard historique concernant les migrations à l'intérieur de l'Afrique sub-Saharienne, puis les routes maritimes ou terrestres vers l'Europe et enfin la situation des immigrés africains dans trois pays : France, Grande-Bretagne, Afrique du Sud
