"Défricher"

Abstract : The Extraordinary Ceremonies of Baroque Catholicism. Edited by Bernard Dompnier A few decades after the Council of Trent, catholic worship began to take on a never before seen splendor. Pageants, music, and temporary decors competed to create a ceremonial splendor that found its peak in the solemnities outside the liturgical cycle (canonization, jubilees, funerals, coronations, consecrations...). This collection proposes to examine the extraordinary ceremonies at the scale of all of Catholicism and to cross various disciplinary approaches to bring to light the religious, cultural and political significances of manifestations of catholic worship, vehicle, and identity in the multiconfessional world of the 17th and 18th centuries. In addition, these studies seek to contribute to a better understanding of baroque civilization. Traduction / Translation : Marie Bolton
