The Spirit as the Subject Carrying out the Sublation of Nature

In this paper, I will try to propose a general characterisation of the spirit in Hegel's Encyclopaedia. This characterisation is based on the opposition between nature and spirit. More precisely, in my view the Hegelian spirit can be defined as the activity of bringing the natural exteriority back to a living totality.

Dans cet article, je propose une caractérisation générale de l'esprit tel qu'il est thématisé dans l'Encyclopédie de Hegel. Cette caractérisation est basée sur l'opposition de la nature et de l'esprit. Plus précisément, je défends l'hypothèse selon laquelle l'esprit peut être défini comme le sujet qui ramène l'extériorité naturelle à son intériorité propre, l'intégrant ainsi dans la totalité vivante qu'il constitue.
