Espace rural et héritages industriels, entre mise en friche et mise en patrimoine

Abstract : Rural areas and the legacy of manufacturing: Becoming a wasteland or an industrial heritage? The socioeconomic changes in rural areas of Germany are examined in relation to industry's legacy there. In eastern Germany, rural areas are torn between a massive, rapid loss of industry and a new rural development model that values local resources. This tension revolves around manufacturing: should the industrial past in rural areas be erased or developed? By focusing on Vogtland in Saxony, an area along the former border between East and West Germany specialized in textiles, special attention is paid to how locals promote and use immaterial aspects of the legacy left by industry in current development strategies.
