Dynamiques industrielles et mutations des espaces ruraux en Allemagne

Abstract : This paper focuses on the role of manufacturing industry in rural transformations in Germany. Approaches to rural areas and productive systems in Germany are briefly mapped out, as well as the relevance and ambiguities of using a framework for analysis that combines both a spatial and sectoral perspective. Then the manufacturing function of rural areas is explored at national level, showing patterns of regional differentiation and contrasting manufacturing dynamics between old and new 'Länder' over the last decade. The last part is a case study of restructuring in Vogtland (Saxony).
