Choisir et redéfinir le local. L'exemple d'un type de filières courtes: les AMAP en Béarn

Abstract : The notion of locality is underlined in many discourses about the Association pour le maintien d'une agriculture paysanne. Nevertheless, this notion is in many studies taken for granted, and the sense that could be given to the locality designed by the Amap has never been challenged. Comparing the Amap networks in Béarn and Bigorre, two small regions of the South-West of France, we aim to demonstrate that the locality is not a reality upon which the Amap are being built. On the contrary, the locality designed by the Amap is strongly undermined by institutional practices and choices, which design its limits and determine the characteristics of the participants of such a network. Furthermore, the way the farmers speak of themselves and of their insertion in their neighboring reinforce the idea that the locality designed by the Amap is more a spatialised network, or a social environment, than the rediscovery of a local territory
