Une approche territoriale des risques : Vers une géographie sociale et politique des risques et de l'environnement

Abstract : Based on the critics of modernism stemming from risks and territories, the idea of their coproduction is stated, in relation with a social, temporal and spatial context. The territorial approach of risks is framed as an encompassing and situated framework. It allows analyzing the very different causalities and conditions that lead to the production of risks and its implications for societies. The production perspective (of facts and meaning) leads to assess the (political) definition of risks' boundaries and its content, to investigate the different factors at stake (both material and intangible) and their interactions, to analyze the performativity of risks (what they imply and legitimate), and to embody such issues within a critical debate on the limits of modernity and the relations of societies with the rest of nature. The territorial approach articulates different viewpoints, politicizes them, and aims at integrating the thematic and disciplinary diversity of risk assessment
