Dabei waren sie von der Begeisterung der damaligen Volkskunde für die Aufnahme von kulturellen Zeugnissen angesteckt worden. Stravinsky wurde von Ragtime-und Jazzaufnahmen beeinflusst, die er über den Dirigenten Ernest Ansermet kennenlernte. Puccini fand einige Themen für seine Oper " Madama Butterfly, Schallplatten japanischer Musik der Gramophone Company25 fügte Ottorino Respighi eine Nachtigallaufnahme in seiner Komposition, pp.114-129, 1924.
