La grande sphinge restaurée du Mausolée carré de Fourches-Vieilles à Orange (Vaucluse)

Abstract : The statue discussed in this paper is a female sphinx discovered in Orange in 1999 and still unpublished because of its fragmentary state. We decided to organise an exhibition in the Museum of Art and History of Orange because we wished to present it to the scholars of the 10th Conference on Provincial Art. The statue has been restored for this exhibition. The body has been recomposed with a female head made in a limestone of the same quality and in the same geometrical execution as the body and the wings of the monster
