Abstract : The second part of this article describes how this voice quality has been sought throughout the history of music (changing vocal forms, production context, degrees of freedom of musical parameters). However, statements made about the period before the turn of the seventeenth century must be regarded with caution, due to the lack of perceptual data. Existing only in Western lyrical art, the singing formant is the mark of a specific culture where efficiency and aesthetics are combined.
