Geometry as a Universal Mental Construction

Geometry, etymologically the "science of measuring the earth", is a mathematical formalization of space. Just as formal concepts of number may be rooted in an evolutionary ancient system for perceiving numerical quantity. Geometry is nevertheless linked to two different systems. The first system is sensitive to angle and length while the second is sensitive to length and sense, but not angle.

La géométrie, dont l'étymologie est "science de la terre", est une formalisation de l'espace. La géométrie est le résultat de deux capacités distinctes. L'une est sensible aux notions d'angles et de longueur alors que la seconde est sensible aux notions de longueur et d'orientation.
