Focalisation, saillance et instruction de construction du sens

Abstract : If focalisation is a process aiming at highlighting one or several elements in a given utterance and at drawing attention to it/them through prosodic or syntactic devices, the question that arises then is: what is it that is actually focalised on? To answer such a question, we need to address two other issues first, namely in what way is/are the element(s) focalised on, and to what purpose? The analysis of the prosodic behaviour of the unit " still " reveals that what is focalised on is the instruction of meaning construction brought about by the unit's schematic form and is therefore, by extension, a step in the process of the meaning construction of the utterance.
