Perspective and Metaphysical Imagination

The papers consider the role of imagination, and in particular of metaphysical imagination in scientific knowledge, suggesting an analogy between metaphysics and central perspective in geometry: it can be used to express by images something that cannot be fully conceived conceptually, but it contains an intrinsic tendency to justify itself on the basis of a more natural or truthful representation; the images might stimulate the active role of the subject in the representation but also tend to present themselves as the reflection of God’s eye; they might allow a recognition of the incompleteness and limitedness of the human’s point of view but also transform themselves into illusions that deceive the subject.
