Any translation of the order of processes is based on an interpretation both of their chronological order and of their nature and their importance for the speaker. The choice of grammatical devices (iconicity/non-iconicity, aspecto-temporal form) can create a stylistic effect, a grammatical connotation linked to the subjective perception by the speaker of the length of the process, and thus of its importance. The paper focuses particularly on Russian-French translation of the grammatical connotation of posteriority in past processes.
