The Italian "Industrial Districts" and the role of Information Technology

Italian Industrial Districts represent one of the most original forms of production in industrialized countries : a group of small family enterprises within a densely populated rural landscape. Development of information technology within enterprises or between them is unavoidable. It increases productivity while undermining the very bases of the Industrial Districts.

Les Districts industriels (en France : Systèmes de Production Locale) italiens représentent l'une des formes les plus originales de production dans les pays industrialisés : des groupes de petites entreprises familiales industrielles dans un milieu rural densément peuplé. Le développement de l'informatique est inévitable et favorise la productivité mais met en danger ces systèmes prospères mais fragiles.
