Naplouse, Alep, des "villes du savon"

Abstract : This article questions in a comparative perspective the actual situation of the industry of olive oil soap in Aleppo and Nablus. I describe the common characteristics that make both cities "cities of soap", then examine the actual situation of the industry in both cases. While Aleppo soap is experiencing from 20 years onward a boom in its prosperity, Nabulsi soap is in a situation of heavy crisis. I then question the economical, but also cultural reasons that influence these opposite destinies.
