Environmental scanning and intellectual property protection in SMEs: the role of national culture

Abstract : The purpose of this study is to examine the environmental scanning differences according to national culture values. Results from the data collected from 148 biotechnology enterprises located in twenty countries indicate that national culture values influence firm's scanning activities. Results also show that there is an association between a firm's scanning activities and a firm's capability to protect intellectual property.
