L'impensé social des rumeurs politiques : Sur l'approche dominocentrique du phénomène et son dépassement

Abstract : Political rumours are usually dealt with on the fringe of the general and familiar forms of rumour as a social phenomenon. This theoretical special clause relies on adopting a cleft relation to politics which opposes and polarizes the popular classes (people from below) and the elite classes (people from above). Political rumours in the former category being an issue of faith and studied as such whereas the latter – the social elites and professional politicians – embodying the role of strategists, might play on rumours and scoff at them. This article aims at putting into perspective the domino-centric aspects of the thesis so as to carry out this artificial divide of the phenomenon. While relying on a review of the relevant literature alongside with examples taken from recent political agenda, the paper also stands up for an approach combining popular and political usages of rumours.
