Abstract : In the last twenty years, metropolisation revived the streets' function of representation, all the more in globalizing cities such as Berlin and Istanbul. Despite economical, social and cultural contrasts, prestige operations have been the first priority of public action on streets in these two cities. A specific form of "global street" has thus emerged, which is undergoing a process of "patrimonialisation" and integrating aesthetical innovations at a local level. Symbols of the city, these streets, however, lead to conflicts between actors who produce and/or use them.
