Les usages d'Internet : facteurs de compétitivité de la « PME réseau » ?

Abstract : In this article, we argue that Internet associated technology contributes to SMEs' development and competitiveness by sustaining de-integration and diversification processes. According to that perspective, we try to identify a first population of SMEs showing a capacity to achieve an improvement in competitiveness through Internet associated technology uses. These competitiveness gains are identified through a Porter framework based on the existence of three competitive strategies: cost cut-ting, product and services differentiation and market extension. The organizational and technological features are hence compared with a second population of SMEs that shows difficulties to utilize Internet associated technology in terms of competitive advantages. The results are based on a large phoning survey done in 2004.
