Représenter l'espace pour structurer le temps : approche des dynamiques de changements forestiers dans le sud-est de la Côte d'Ivoire par télédétection

Abstract : Côte d'Ivoire has sustained since the 1960's a reduction of forest areas to the benefit of cultivated areas, primarily for commercial purposes, by the establishment of cocoa or coffee plantations. This phenomenon was accentuated by strong population growth and the exodus from the cities towards rural areas at times of economic crisis. These changes are at the origin of the appropriation of space to the detriment of forest areas. However, little is known about the environmental repercussions of these phenomena, because in-depth studies on the long-term evolution of the vegetation cover of the Côte d'Ivoire are still very scarce. Using satellite imagery and a GIS, a diachronic study of the evolution of surface states is carried out, between 1986 and 2000, in a characteristic area in mutation in the east-central portion of Changements forestiers en Côte d'Ivoire the Côte d'Ivoire, namely the classified forests of Bossématié and Béki. The purpose of this paper is to show the methodology applied to the identification of the dynamics of surface states in dense tropical forest, in order to highlight the various deforestation mechanisms through spatial modelling. This study results in the implementation of a spatial and temporal synthesis of changes that can be used as a decision-support tool by the organizations responsible for the protection of forest areas such as SODEFOR.
