L'espace comme politique

Abstract : Through the analysis of an association, founded by some beneficiaries of minimum wage, and some street level bureaucrats in the sector of employment, which claims the fact that it gathers “citizens” and “equals”, the very notion of politics is questioned. The space and the relation with space become the nodal point of this answer, once the intellectual tools of political science have failed to explain a large part of an empirical case study. Based on political philosophy, the “space as politics” is defined as the capacity of the poorest to create their own space, the space of their equality, and the space of their politics. This space becomes a “common scene”, which can be considered as a political act itself. This act opposes the intention of choosing one's own space and time, in the name of the “citizen”, defined as the name of the Other, against the submission to the imposed time and space of the police, which creates the dynamics of the identification.
