La colère de la déesse décapitée. Traditions, cultes et pouvoir dans le sud de l'Inde

Abstract : This monograph focused on a South Indian temple (in Karnataka State in India) dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Yellamma/Renuka, although the study ranges widely beyond the temple. The monograph is divided into three parts. The first part focuses on the myth pilgrimage sites and festivals of the Goddess ; the second part explores the institution of "divine brides" wherein devotees are "married" to the deities; and the third part is about the ritual and administrative organization of the temple. This book is also a deep study of confluct of value and violence over popular and orthodox hinduism in time of complex modernisation.
