Les repaires d'hyènes des cavernes en Europe occidentale : présentation et comparaison de quelques assemblages osseux.

Abstract : Cave-den research focuses on the different parts of cave Hyaena behaviour. These studies are very important for Palaeolithic archaeology, because many cave sites show some evidence, now mixed, of human and carnivore occupation. In this paper, the authors state the present knowledge about the palaeontology and archaeozoology of hyaena den fauna. Besides, modern excavations have provided new data on different issues: cave hyaena geo-chronological distribution, palaeoenvironmental reconstruction, hyaena bone frequency and cave frequentation, hyaena and prey profile mortality, and frequency of skeleton parts (for hyaena and prey).
