Kashifi's Asrâr-i Qâsimî and Timurid Magic

The works of the centralasian scholar and polygraph Hosayn Kâshefî is fairly well known nowadays. His interest for occult sciences has however not been underlined. This article shows that in Kâshefî's views, magic pratices are but an element in the greater array of laws ruling the universe created by God. Performing magic is hence no more opposed to religion than medicine or pharmacopoeia.

L'oeuvre du savant et polygraphe centrasiatique Hosayn Kâshefî est assez connu ; son intérêt pour les sciences occultes l'est beaucoup moins. Cet article montre que pour lui, les pratiques magiques s'insèrent au fond harmonieusement dans un ensemble de lois naturelles – astrologiques notamment. Pratiquer cette magie n'est donc pas contraire à l'orthodoxie religieuse, pas plus que la médecine ou la pharmacopée.
