Vers une évaluation du développement durable appliquée aux aménagements hydrauliques

Abstract : Hydroelectricity is the leading source of renewable energy making it possible to avoid the large-scale use of fossil fuels in several countries. However, the creation of hydroelectric projects poses a number of major challenges on both an ethical and statutory level in addition to economic, social and environmental considerations. This article proposes a series of recommandations making it possible to tacke up these challenges. Thes are based on the results of an initiative from the International Energy Agency involving around 100 specalities in 16 countries. These recommandations are aimed at incorporating social and environnemental considerations in the planning and administration of projects in order to optimise their contribution to sustainable development, providing future generations with a springboard for local, regional and national development while at the same time protecting the environment and improving social equity.
