Communauté et mobilité : les "nouveaux refuges" des Druzes de Syrie

Abstract : The Sweida region in Syria is a community territory, a near exclusive appropriation by the Druzes. It is linked up with the other druze territories of the bordering countries (Lebanon and Jordan) with denominational networks wich represent bonds essential for the socioreligious survival of the group.
In the Near Eastern space, these bonds constitute a system of exchange in wich the Druzes have been moving since the Ottoman ara. Mobility, on this regional scale, constitutes a palliation to the constraint of the spatial scattering of the group, due to historical ups and downs responsible for its splitting up in various zones faraway from each others.
In searching out the determinants of international mobility, spatial aspect is therefore central. But when it interferes with the setting up of new borders (created during colonial epoch and by different contemporary conflicts) and community identity, all the complexity of a very particular mobility must be sorted out.
Druze mobility sets the problem of reconciling community logic (on the one hand) and the logic of the neighbouring States (on the other hand). We will eventually see, when the two logics are in competition, as for the most peripheral and least integrated community spaces, that a relentless of new international spaces is a permanent recourse.
