« Residenta ou Reconstructora ? les deux visages de la mater dolorosa de la Patrie paraguayenne »

Abstract : After the devastation of the War of the Triple Alliance (1865-1870) which brought about the death of half of the population, Paraguay developed a national imaginary where the figure of woman as « mother » of the country played a central role. As a result, the « daughters » of the nation, women of the Paraguayan elite, fought in the 1970s - in the midst of the dictatorship of General Alfredo Stroessner (1954-1989) - to impose their definition of their « true » identity.
