CHINESE MIGRANTS AND THE “INUNDATION” METAPHOR

Abstract

Metaphors used to disparage and ultimately result in
exclusion of Chinese immigrants in the USA in the 19th and 20th centuries. The conclusion attempts to bring up to date the history and theorization of this phenomenon and to illustrate its contemporary global spread.
