Area functions and articulatory modeling as a tool for investigating the articulatory, acoustic and perceptual properties of sounds across languages
Résumé
This paper illustrates the suitability of Maeda's articulatory model as a tool for exploring the relation between articulatory and acoustic properties in the realization of phonological contrasts. Specific hypotheses concerning the phonetics of French are tested in a cross-linguistic perspective. Accessorily, a new type of transcription is proposed, using short-hand label for the main spectral prominence.
