Contributing to the Development of Science in Latin America

Abstract

Needham applied the "periphery principle" in promoting the development of science beyond Europe. UNESCO organized its first regional scientific conference for Latin America in Montevideo (September 1948). This conference has been a powerful tool for Latin American scientists to gain a better recognition for science in their respective countries.
The following text is the short section (1st part of the book) remembering this conference.
