Le paysage, entre le politique et le vernaculaire. Réflexions à partir de John Brinckerhoff Jackson

Abstract : A new political and ethical « landscape culture » is currently emerging, which corresponds to new forms of viewing, thinking and living space, society and nature. But we still need to recognize and describe this new landscape culture. What are its components ? What are its intellectual references, its characteristic means, its real efficiency ?
This paper, first, recalls some of the main directions of the contemporary theories of landscape, and then addresses the issue of political and vernacular landscapes, as presented by John Brinckerhoff Jackson. The history of landscape, from a political point of view, is a rather polysemic one, and even a polemic one.
