Les traductions de urbanisme et town planning en arabe (XXe s.) Exploration à partir des cas du Liban, de l'Egypte, de la Syrie.

Abstract : One can notice strange differences in Egypt, Lebanon and Syria in the translation of the words urbanisme and town planning along the XXth century. In this paper wa argue that these differences can be related to the various circulations of ideas and practices in the field of planning. The colonial legacy, the specificities of French and British and American planning traditions and the political choices (free trade vs collectivism) in the concerned countries are among the factors we study in order to understand these differences.
