Introduction

Abstract : The Introductory chapter to the volume entitled "The peopling of East Asia: putting together archaeology, linguistics and genetics", by the three editors, first presents the principal proposals for genetic relationships among the five main language families of East Asia: Sino-Tibetan, Hmong-Mien, Austronesian, Taoi-Kadai and Austroasiatic. In a second section, the papers in the volume are individually introduced.
