Trading through the flexibility mechanisms: quantifying the size of the Kyoto markets

Since the adoption of the Kyoto Protocol in 1997, the flexibility mechanisms have moved from formal definitions and scope to practical tools. Potential participants in the carbon markets established by the Kyoto Protocol have changed over the years. The objective of the chapter is to analyse the impacts of these changes on the carbon market through five cases or scenarios that reflect the chronological landmarks in the negotiation process and the building of the Kyoto Protocol flexibility mechanisms.
Les mécanismes de flexibilité définis formellement dans le Protocole de Kyoto en 1997 ont évolué depuis, en vue de leur mise en œuvre pratique. Les participants potentiels au marché du carbone, établis dans le Protocole de Kyoto, ont changé au fil des années. Le chapitre analyse les conséquences de ces changements sur le marché du carbone, à partir de cinq cas ou scenariis qui reflètent les étapes chronologiques du processus des négociations climatiques et de la construction des instruments de flexibilité du Protocole de Kyoto.
