L'exploitation des petits vertébrés dans les Pyrénées françaises
du Paléolithique au Mésolithique : un inventaire taphonomique et archéozoologique

Abstract : The reason for this paper is to establish the state of knowledge of the exploitation of the small animal in the French Pyrénées. A critical review of available data has been made in order to discuss the anthropogenic character of small fauna present in bone assemblages. For each technocomplex, the place of small fauna at the heart of the economic systems was revealed so as to assess whether or not these species played a part in the technical
and/or nutritional field. If the technical exploitation of small vertebrates starts from the beginning of Upper Paleolithic, the food exploitation of the small fauna seems to develop from Upper Magdalenian.
