Pourriez-vous être politiquement correct lorsque vous parlez des personnes handicapées? Sur la force du discours dans le champ du handicap.

Abstract : “Could you, please, be politically correct when you are speaking about disabled people ?
About the strength of discourse in field of disability.”
Using the theoretical contribution of pragmatics, the author raises the question of the performative aspect of discourse in the field of disability. She analyses the way in which discourse is active. This implies answering two questions: first, the effects of discourse on disabled persons, and second, the consequences of the handling of discourse for the speaker (in terms of legitimacy and of responsibility). Analysing the four models defining disability and focusing her attention on the one developed by Disability Studies, she shows that, in the field of disability, every speech act is involves indissociably linked elements of explanation, individual and collective action, and the taking of positions.
