Du langage au modèle

Abstract : This paper presents the architecture of a text understanding system, whose main original feature consists in splitting the problem into two tasks processed by two distinct sub-systems. The first one is a linguistic processor with a strictly delimited goal, namely to build the set of linguistically marked relations between entities and events refered to by the text. The second one uses extra-linguistic knowledge (in this case a model of the road accidents "world") and enunciation conditions to obtain from these relations a consistent operational representation of the scene described by the text.
