La construction d'un système socio-technique : Esquisse pour une anthropologie des techniques

Abstract : In this paper, we intend to deal with the relations between technical systems and all that is generally understood under the terms of "context" or "environment". We will start from an innovation project - the conception, in Nicaragua, of a technical system enable to make briquettes for combustion from cotton plant stems -, showing how every technical choice is set in a knot of constraints and problems of all kinds. Then, as we take more specific interest in the way technical objects take part to the construction of our culture (understood in a broad sense), we will try to extend this work towards what may be called an anthropology of techniques. That should be more than strictly following the elaboration of a technical system: the simultaneous genesis of the object and its environment should be shown.
