Abstract : The Caribbean Basin, a heterogenous area in more sense than one, is still heavily dependent on its geographical neighbour, the United States, as well as on its historical associate, the European Union. With the view to negotiating decently with these two partners, the Caribbean States are attempting to form a coherent economic bloc by invigorating the Caricom and setting up an economic and political partnership with Central American countries and more generally with the members of the Association of Caribbean States.
