Tentative de comparaison de l'équité des systèmes éducatifs français et américain

Abstract : Three principles of justice are defined (all must dispose of a minimum of skills on leaving school; individual inequalities in terms of skills must not compromise social co- operation on an equal footing; inequality of opportunities must not compromise social solidarity) and with the help of these we will try to compare the fairness of the education systems in France and the United States, i.e. to decide which one does most to realise each of the three principles, while taking account of the fact that external conditions in each country - and in particular social inequalities - can themselves help to a greater or lesser extent. There is a lack of data for this project, but those details we have draw the portrait of a French system that is fairer than the American system in terms of transmission of basic skills - whether it be a question of inequalities between groups or between individuals - but more unfair in terms of social inequalities in the face of pupils’ educational paths.
