Tatsächlich und in der Tat : ein Abgrenzungsversuch

This study is devoted to the comparison of tatsächlich and in der Tat. Both phrases are traditionally classified as “modalisers” and are usually and very frequently considered as quasi if not total synonyms. The systematic analysis of their occurences and potentiel for alternation reveals much more complex relationships between the two phrases than is usually accepted. It will also reveal a greater “pragmatisation” of in der Tat compared to tatsächlich whose range of uses remains much wider.
