L'identification sociolinguistique des langues et des variétés linguistiques : pour une analyse complexe du processus de catégorisation fonctionnelle

Abstract : This paper suggests that the identification of a linguistic variety, presented as a multiplex unit, should be based upon sociolinguistic data first. Internal linguistic data should then be observed and interpreted as markers of sociolinguistic identities within their social context. Ground researches have shown that functional social identifications of linguistic varieties are not based neither upon linguistic features nor upon interintelligibility. Most socio-linguists and numerous internal-linguists have already stated that linguistic varieties are sociopolitical units. Both theoretical principles and methodological criteria are then proposed to identify (socio)linguistic varieties within an epistemological and ethical frame trying to understand their subtle complexity.
