The University Library and the Humanities: Historical and Contemporary Perspectives

Abstract : This paper describes the birth of the University Library at the Berlin University in the early 19th century and at the University of Chicago in the late 19th century. It compares the way both university libraries conceive their mission today and the way they relate to their historical roots.
