Problèmes de linguistique liés à la traduction (vietnamien - français)

Abstract : This article aims at underlining some linguistic problems met in the translation from Vietnamese into French and from French into Vietnamese, concerning lexicon, syntax and the choice of French tenses. Unlike French, an inflecting language, Vietnamese is an isolating language in which all the words are invariable. From the lexical point of view, there is no exact semantic equivalence between the words of these two languages. Translating Vietnamese proverbs into French is very difficult. From the syntactic point of view, Vietnamese is a topic-prominent language. Vietnamese time adverbials, which permit to locate accurately events in time (past, present and future), can play the role of French tenses. Vietnamese translators' most difficult problem lies in the choice of the French tenses.
