Le syllogisme catégorique. Traduit par Mawusse Kpakpo AKUEADOTEVI

Résumé

Addenda: The paper has the only aim to provide a brief overview on traditional Syllogistic for a seminar, pulling together classical well known literature on the subject. There is no claim of originality here nor that the method of systematization mirrors Aristotle's one. In fact, I am convinced by K. Ebbinghaus/J. Corcoran/T. Smiley/R. Smith work that Aristotle's Syllogistic is not an axiomatic system but rather a system of rules. Moreover I think that the reasoning behind the establishment of the valid inference forms of each figure, could be rendered by dialogues as presented in the Topica, where the strategic level is close to a natural deduction system of the kind developed by the authors mentioned afore. However, this is still an ongoing project. Shahid Rahman, 2 Oct. 2010
